Former Zambian president Guy Scott has declared that if President Edgar Lungu and the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) don’t voluntarily step down, he will make life difficult for them to rule the country.
Scott’s remarks came after a merger between the MMD and ruling Patriotic Front (PF) was confirmed ahead of the August 11 elections in order to secure a 50% plus one threshold in the upcoming polls.
MMD was Zambia’s ruling party between 1991 and 2001.
According to The Post, Scott said that a socialist movement should be formed under the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) led by Wynter Kabimba, to prevent Lungu and “his friends” from emerging victorious in the upcoming elections.
Scott, along with his associates Miles Sampa, Obvious Mwaliteta and Garry Nkombo, cautioned against the MMD creeping back into politics.
“So we will cause a lot of havoc and diarrhoea for the PF until Edgar is removed. Until the MMD that has crept back into power is removed again, because we saw that we were being eaten alive in PF by the MMD,” Scott said.
Scott said this a few days after he took a swipe at Lungu’s administration over recent xenophobic attacks.
The former president said the attacks were a result of political discontent.
