A Ghanaian teenage boy, who used a toy gun in his attempt to rob a woman, has been sentenced to 10 years in jail, Ghana web reports.

Prince Dogbey Tamakloe, 18, was sentenced to a year’s imprisonment on charges of unlawful entry and 10 years on the charge of attempted robbery.

Passing down the sentence, Judge Aboagye Tandoh said the two sentences would run concurrently.

According to the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Kofi Adu, the suspect broke into the victim’s house and used a toy gun to demand money and food.

Adu said the victim, identified as a Human Resource Consultant, Angel Quansah, managed to call out for help, resulting in the teenage boy’s arrest.

Reports indicate that the west African country is being plagued by armed robbers.

In November last year, police arrested three of six armed robbers who hijacked a commercial bus from Kumasi, heading to Accra on the highway in the Eastern region, reported Joy News.

Police said at the time that the other three suspects, who managed to escape, sustained gunshot wounds.

Meanwhile, according to the Graphic online a gang of female armed robbers were recently arrested in Kumasi after they allegedly robbed a taxi driver of his daily earnings and cellphone.
