Irate residents of Kiangwaci Village in Kirinyaga West sub-County have lynched two suspected criminals said to have been terrorizing the villagers.

The two, who were in a gang of six, were flashed out of their hideout after being suspected of involvement in act of lawlessness.

The residents gathered and armed themselves before they went for the suspects who were pleading for mercy.

They said the gang had been attacking several villages and recently injured some people in the process.

The suspects were frogmarched to a nearby river where they were stoned and later set ablaze.

The residents claimed they killed the suspects after police failed to take action against them despite their pleas to have them arrested and prosecuted.

The villagers vowed to hunt down the other four who managed to escape, adding that any other suspect in their list would also not be spared.

Deputy County Police Commander, Charles Ontita confirmed the incident but urged members of the public to stop taking the law into their hands.

“Police have intensified patrols and beefed up security in all the sections of the County,” he assured.

He added that police would follow up on those directly involved with the killing of the suspects.
