Abuja – A Court of Appeal sitting in Yola, Adamawa state on Thursday reversed the July 15, 2014 impeachment of Murtala Nyako as governor of Adamawa State.
Nyako was removed after 17 out of the 25 members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly adopted a report of a panel set up to investigate him for alleged corruption.
Delivering judgement in an appeal filed by Nyako, the court ruled that the process leading to Nyako’s impeachment contravened the provisions of the law.
Justice Tunde Ayotoye who read the unanimous judgement, said Nyako was not given fair hearing during his impeachment and that his rights were violated by the Assembly members.
The court ordered that all Nyako’s entitlement before and after leaving office should be paid.
The judges, however dismissed Nyako’s appeal to be reinstated as Governor of the state.
The judges ruled that his tenure as governor had elapsed.
