Johannesburg – A 5-year-old boy drowned in his parents’ pool in Bellair, Durban, on Wednesday, paramedics said.

“The neighbour went to move his car, saw the boy in the pool, pulled him out and started resuscitation,” Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said.

Botha did not know if anyone was home with the boy when he fell in at about 17:30.

Botha said the neighbour had seen the boy throwing stones into the pool earlier.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate the boy for an hour, but he died at the scene.
