A 29-year-old man has shocked his relatives and fellow villagers after committing suicide over a 69-year-old woman.
Henry Okayi hanged himself last evening behind the house of the old woman, Sarah Alop who has reportedly been his lover for over three years.
The incident took place in eastern Uganda district of Ngora.
One of the relatives of Okayi, Thomas Esele who talked to him a few hours before committing suicide said: ”Okayi came to my place and told me that he was planning to commit suicide because he had been jilted by Alop. He said she was his true lover who cared for him as her own child and could not think of living without her.”
Esele said that he counseled Okayi and assured him that he was still young and able to get a better woman but after they parted he changed his mind.
Asked why she jilted Okayi, Alop said she felt that she had outgrown loving such a young man.
