Police in Uganda are holding two Kenyans over allegations that they were attempting to buy a gun.
The two Kenyans have been identified as only Makoha and Simuyu.
While addressing journalists at his office in Kampala, Uganda police spokesman Fred Enanga said that the two crossed into border district of Busia seeking to buy a gun.
He said, ”Our informers tipped us about the two men’s intentions and we laid a trap to arrest them.”
He said that they agreed to buy a pistol from a police operative who posed as a seller of guns.
”When they brought the money to pay for the gun, they were arrested by policemen who had been planted at the place where the deal was supposed to be finalized,” Enanga said.
He said the two Kenyans will soon be taken to court to be charged with cases related to unlawfully acquiring firearms.
He appealed to Ugandans especially those living near the border with Kenya to always report to police people they suspect to be dealing in guns or any other illegal activities.
