Zambian airline ranked among fastest growing airlines

A Zambian airline has been ranked among the fastest growing local airline in the southern African region, according to an aviation analysis seen by Xinhua on Thursday.

Proflight Zambia has beat other airlines operating in the region as the fastest growing airline with its capacity almost doubling in the last five years, according to an analysis conducted by one of the world’s leading aviation analysis company, OAG Aviation.
According to the analysis, the airline recorded a growth of 89. 8 percent by capacity from 2010 to 2014 within and outside the southern Africa region.
The Zambian airline was ranked third after Ethiopian Airlines and Turkish Airlines, with Emirates in fourth place followed by Mango and KLM, according to a statement obtained by Xinhua.
According to the analysis, three of the top five and six of the top 10 fastest growing airlines by departure capacity within and from southern Africa are based outside of the region, with Ethiopian Airlines growing its capacity by the biggest margin of 184.2 percent from 2010 while Turkish Airlines recorded 90.2 percent growth.
Other airlines from outside the region that have grown in southern Africa between 2010 and 2014 include Emirates Airlines up by 80.2 percent, KLM up by 38.9 percent, Qatar Airlines up by 37.0 percent and Kenya Airways up by 24.5 percent, according to the statement.
Only three airlines among the top 20 operators within and from southern Africa reported capacity declines between 2010 and 2014 and these include Botswana Airlines down by 2.4 percent, TAAG Angola Airlines down by 1.9 percent and Air Zimbabwe down by 1.3 percent.
