Will Smith, the American actor, has spoken out about his separated wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s revelations about their marriage.
Jada announced last week that she and Will had been living apart since 2016.
The actress discussed their tumultuous relationship ahead of the release of her biography, ‘Worthy,’ on October 17.
She said seven years ago, the duo decided “to live completely separate lives” after being “too exhausted with trying”.
The 52-year-old said she could not divorce Will because of his sense of humour.
Reacting to the bombshells via an email to the New York Times, Will, 55, said Jada’s revelations about their marriage in her memoir “woke him up”.
The award-winning actor said he realized “she had lived a life more on the edge”.
Will said “she is more resilient, clever and compassionate” than he had understood.
“When you’ve been with someone for more than half of your life, a sort of emotional blindness sets in. And you can all too easily lose your sensitivity to their hidden nuances and subtle beauties,” Smith wrote.
The couple tied the knot in 1997 and are blessed with two children.
Their marriage has been in the news on several occasions for controversial reasons.
