Varsity Student Jailed For Breaking Window Panes

Nanyuki – A university student has been imprisoned for four months by a Nanyuki court over malicious damage of property.

Josiah Esemi was given the punishment by Senior Resident Magistrate, Evanson Bett who also gave him an alternative of paying a fine of KES 25 000.

He was charged for maliciously damaging window panes worth KES 9 700 belonging to Teresiah Nyawira on December 13, 2015 at Majengo area, Nanyuki town, while quarreling with his brother.

When he first appeared in court, the accused denied the charge but later changed his mind when the matter was brought for hearing.

The court said that “the accused did not behave like an intelligent person who should respect others’ property.”
