Vanderbijlpark murder accused’s family in court for first time

(Wim Pretorius, News24)

Johannesburg – The family of Fanie du Preez, the man accused of murdering his wife and two teenage children, was in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court for the first time since his arrest.

The public gallery was packed on Tuesday morning ahead of Du Preez’s bail application. Most people including his wife’s family sat quietly as they waited for him to be called up from the holding cells.

The 39-year-old stands accused of shooting dead his wife, Thea, 43, and their two children, Carlia, 17 and Phillip, 14, on December 3.

It is the State’s case that the murders were premeditated and it would oppose bail.
