University Of Nairobi Closed Indefinitely

The University of Nairobi (UoN) has been closed indefinitely due to students’ unrest.

A statement signed by UoN Vice Chancellor Peter Mbithi confirmed the closure of the institution on Tuesday afternoon.

“Following the continued disruption of normal university functions by groups of a few unruly students, the senate at its special meeting held today 5th April, 2016 has resolved to close the university indefinitely.

“All students are therefore required to vacate University premises with immediate effect and certainly not later than 5.00 p.m. today,” the statement read.

Students at the university have been on rampage since Saturday, protesting against the re-election of Babu Owino as the leader of their union.

According to them, the elections which were held last week Friday were marred with a lot of rigging to retain Babu as the chairman of the union.
