Chicago-based United Airlines has cancelled its only flight to Africa, a route between Houston and Nigeria, due to the country’s foreign exchange policy.
According to The Cable, the company announced that it will be suspending flights to Nigeria next month, citing difficulties in obtaining money owed for tickets and an ailing energy sector in Nigeria.
The last flight on the Houston-Nigeria route is set to take place on June 30, following which Delta Air Lines Inc. will be the only major US carrier flying between the US and Africa, Vanguard reports.
The Nigerian foreign exchange policy has made matters difficult for airlines to make profits in recent times, owing to restrictions on the amount of money that can be moved abroad at one time.
