Ugandan First Lady’s Guard Held After Shooting National Boxing Team Trainer

Kampala – A soldier from the Ugandan Special Forces Command (SFC) protecting First Lady Janet Museveni was arrested on Sunday for shooting and injuring a fitness trainer for the country’s national boxing team, Bombers.

According to Daily Monitor, the victim, Diamond Bricks,was shot in the arm while the soldier tried to block the team from entering the Lugogo Indoor Stadium where Janet was having a meeting with wives of police officers.

The spokesperson of the SFC, Major Chris Magezi, told the media that an argument ensued between the solider and a team member after which the soldier shot Bricks.

The Bombers had been given access into the stadium by SFC officers in the morning as they prepared for the national trials of Olympics Qualifiers next month

But problems started when after jogging, they used another entrance to access the same venue, with soldiers denying them entry, resulting in an altercation.

Police confirmed the incident, declining however, to give more details.

Meanwhile the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) President, William Blick told New Vision that he was ready to fight tooth and nail to ensure Uganda’s victory at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The Summer Olympic Games will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from August 5 to 21.
