U.S: Tiffany Haddish Denies Ex-boyfriend Common’s Claim About Their Breakup Being ‘Mutual’

Tiffany Haddish, an Eritrean-American actress, and rapper Common dated for over a year until splitting up in 2021. Following the termination of their relationship, Common, actual name Lonnie Rashid Lynn, stated in an interview that their split was “mutual.”

During an appearance on Hollywood Unlocked With Jason Lee Uncensored at the time, the 51-year-old rapper stated that they chose to split after they “came to the realization that this is what’s going to be best for us.”

“To still continue to love each other and be there for each other is to not be in a romantic relationship because we won’t be able to give to that. I don’t want to be one foot in, one foot out,” he added.

However, in a recent interview with The Washington Post, Haddish stated that this was not the case. A lot of events occurred, according to the 43-year-old, before her ex-boyfriend broke up with her over the phone. Her then-boyfriend did not invite her to his own birthday celebration, which was one of the occasions in dispute.

“It wasn’t mutual,” Haddish claimed. “It was more him saying, ‘I think this relationship has run its course.’ And I was like, ‘Okay. Like you gonna be a 50-year-old single man. Okay?’”

Despite the circumstances surrounding their breakup, Haddish admitted their relationship was “the healthiest, the funnest relationship I’ve ever had.” “It’s where I felt safest out of all the relationships I’ve ever had,” the Night School star added.

Haddish also similarly appeared on Hollywood Unlocked with Jason Lee Uncensored after their breakup and spoke about occasionally missing Common, PEOPLE reported. “But that’s with, I think, any intimate relationship that you might have, you miss them. But I’m fine with it. It’s cool,” she said at the time. “I wish him nothing but joy and happiness. He will always be cool.”

The comedian and actress also told The Washington Post she’s hopeful about crossing paths with the right man. “I’m a pretty positive person, and I’m here to have an experience,” she said. “I would love to have a partner to experience it with. But also, I guess I’ve been alone for so long. And so used to being abandoned, I expect it. Which is sad, right?”
