Suspected Livestock Thieves Arraigned In Court

Suspected livestock thieves have been arraigned in a Nyeri court on accusation of stealing a dairy cow in Mweiga location, Kieni west sub-county.

Peter Matheri and John Mugo appeared before chief magistrate John Oyiengo.

They were charged that on May 28, this year at around 10.00PM they broke into the homestead of Josephat Mwaniki and stole his cow.

Mwaniki told the court that he had travelled to his farm in Kiawara area during the day and returned home late at night.

While approaching his homestead, Mwaniki said he saw torch lights from the back of his house.

He became suspicious and raised an alarm waking up his family members and neighbours.

The suspects managed to escape with one cow, the court heard.

Residents kicked off a search and nabbed one suspect, Matheri, who after interrogation by police divulged about his colleague who was later arrested at his home.

The case was scheduled to continue on June 17, this year
