Nadia Nakai recently opened up about feeling overlooked in the music industry in Mzansi.
Speaking to Cassper Nyovest on the new Family Tree Podcast on YouTube, the rapper said that there are several assumptions about her that are not true at all.
Nadia said she felt as though she worked just as hard as some male rappers in the industry but doesn’t get the same praise and said that some felt as if she doesn’t deserve to be where she is today.
“I feel I am overlooked a lot. Last year, without an album I had one of the best years as an artist period, and I am female. With all my male counterparts, I really was killing it but there’s always excuses made of why I don’t deserve to be where I need to be.”
Nadia said that a lot of the criticism she receives also stems from the fact that Cassper is her boss. The rapper said that she is often told that she wouldn’t be where she is today if she hadn’t been associated with the Move For Me hitmaker.
“Things like she’s pretty so things are easy for her or she’s associated with Cassper hence her success,” Nadia said.
Speaking about her album, Nadia said that after facing a lot of criticism, she found that she needed to work harder on herself and her music.
“I had to grow into an artist that was good enough to make a great album,” she said.
