14-yr-old child bride forced to wed 60-yr-old man in ‘arranged marriage’
According a tweet by Hassan Istiila, a freelance journalist in Mogadishu, a 14-yr-old girl was forced to marry a 60-yr-old man in Somalia, adding that such marriages between old men and younger girls have become a normal occurrence in the predominantly Muslim nation.
“It’s no surprise, but the people get angry when they saw a 60-year-old man married 14 yrs-old in Somalia”, he wrote.
Somalia has one of the highest rates of child brides in the world with more than half of the girls married off before they turn 18.
