Several Arrested In Mombasa Over IEBC Demos.

Several protestors including the Mombasa County assembly speaker Thadius Rajwayi were arrested after they participated in the anti- IEBC demos in Mombasa on Monday.

The demonstrations which were immediately disrupted by Police after they dispersed the crowd with tear gas left over 10 youths plush three member of the County assembly among them Junda MCA Paul Onje behind bars at the central police station.

However the CORD leaders led by Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho expressed their dissatisfaction over the manner in which the anti- riot police handling the demonstrators.

“This is inhumane we have not come here to destroy property or cause mayhem, we are only to fight for open polls come 2017.

However, after the commotion Police allowed the protestors to present their petition at the Mvita IEBC offices only and they did not manage to reach the regional Independent and Boundaries Commissions’ offices at Kizingo.

The IEBC regional offices are located just adjacent to the police headquarters and near the Mombasa state house as well where police had camped waiting for the Mombasa governor and his team.

On his part, Mvita Member of Parliament condemned the police for their hash actions over the protestors who were doing it peacefully.

“We will not relent, we will carry on with our anti- IEBC, demos until we are heard and actions are taken by the government against the Commission”, said Abdulswamad.

The sentiments were echoed by Kisauni Member of Parliament Rashid Juma Bedzimba who accused the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission for being bias and acting to favor jubilee government instead of Kenyans interest.

“We will not go to the general elections if the current IEBC will still be sitting, we do not trust the electoral body” added Bedzimba.

On her part, Mishi Mboko, the Mombasa County women representative blamed the police for disrupting the demonstration insisting that it was a peaceful demo.

However, the Coast regional coordinator Nelson Marwa has issued a stern warning that the demonstration will not be allowed and Police will deal with anyone who will breach the peace in any part of the Coast region
