Saftas Femove Katlego Maboe From Best TV Presenter category

The South African Film and TV Awards (Saftas) on Friday afternoon announced that it will be removing Katlego Maboe from the Best TV Presenter category.

The local presenter was nominated in the category in which the winner will be voted for by the public.

Katlego has stayed out of the limelight following a very public cheating scandal, and abuse claims made against him by his former partner.

The 34-year-old star admitted to cheating on his partner in an Instagram post, but has denied any form of abuse. A legal battle between the couple is currently underway.

“After careful deliberation of concerns raised regarding the nomination of Mr. Katlego Maboe in the Best TV Presenter Public Vote Category, announced on Thursday, 29 April 2021, the Saftas’s jury has decided to rescind his nomination.

“The rescission is effective immediately and voting code 5 has been removed from the voting USSD line,” the Saftas said in a statement to the press.

Katlego was removed as host on the breakfast show, Expresso, following the fallout at the end of 2020. He also starred in several Outsurance TV ads that were pulled from air.

The 15th Saftas ceremony will be broadcast on Saturday 22 May from 18:30 on SABC 3.
