While local music awards refused to show him some love, South African rapper Khuli Chana has gone on to scoop not one but three international accolades.
Khuli has finally received recognition for his One Source music video which he said was neglected on home soil. The music video won big at the 2017 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in France.

At the ceremony which took place on Wednesday evening, One Source won two silvers and one gold awards in the Entertainment categories of the prestigious ceremony. The festival is held each year to honour the finest creative projects from around the globe and it’s an honour that a South African artist is recognised among others.
Khuli’s accolades came four months after the rapper launched a scathing attack on Metro FM Awards judges, calling them out for not choosing the video as the Music Video of the Year. While he was still trying to come to terms with the disappointment, it repeated itself at the annual South African Music Awards (SAMAs) a few months later.
Nevertheless, the rapper didn’t give up as he believed that God has something bigger for him. Guess he was right about that.
After scooping the prestigious awards, Khuli said he hopes to inspire other local artists with the winnings. The whole point is to work hard, even if the local music industry does not recognise you. According to the rapper, artists must stop limiting themselves to their local environments and spread their wings on the international horizon.
During the glitzy awards ceremony, Khuli was a part of a presentation about the music video. The video also features African big names including Sarkodie, Victoria Kimani, VVIP and Patoranking.
