Shabby preparations have trailed Nigeria’s U-23 side that was stranded in Atlanta due to delayed flights ahead of theirRio 2016 Olympic Games campaign.
The Dream Team VI aboard 32-seater Delta plane took off from Atlanta at exactly 7AM Eastern Time (12 Noon Nigeria time) just few hours before they play Japan in the early hours of Friday, August 5.
Samson Siasia and his men will have have just seven hours after they arrive Manaus to rest, stretch their legs and prepare for their first game of the football event in Rio 2016 which is against Japan.
This Nigeria U-23 side is out to win Gold medal in the Olympics just like the Dream Team did in Atlanta 96.
A Kanu Nwankwo captained side beat the likes of Brazil and Argentina to become the first African country to win football Gold at Atlanta 96.
That team too just like the current Dream Team arrived late to the Olympic Games.
A travel mix-up meant that first Dream Team arrived Atlanta behind schedule for the 1996 Olympics games but went ahead to win the football tournament.
The similarities did not end there.
The 1996 Dream Team later flew to the Olympic Games aboard a Delta Airline plane just like the Nigeria U-23 team of 2016.
Another Olympic Gold in football for Nigeria?
We only hope so.
