Guerdy Abraira, a Real Housewives of Miami star, has verified that she is cancer-free.
The 45-year-old homemaker revealed in May that she had breast cancer, which she discovered in March when the results of a regular mammogram arrived.
She stated in a May Instagram post that she was preparing for her operation, which was a success, as she announced to the BravoCon audience that she is cancer-free.
I’m cancer-free, officially! I’m about to ring the radiation bell on Wednesday, so that’s exciting as well,’ she said to applause from the Las Vegas crowd.
‘I’m very excited, and I’m so blessed, and I literally wake up every morning counting my blessings and making it count,’ she added.
Abraira, who joined the Real Housewives of Miami cast when it returned on Peacock in 2021, was also asked why she was so ‘vulnerable’ in sharing her cancer journey.
‘Everyone’s like, “Why did you share?’ and then I go, “Why not?” Because I was told I was going to be able to be treated and I’ll be OK eventually but we’re gonna go through a hard time,’ Guerdy shared.
‘To me, I said to myself, “If I can show the good and the bad, then it’s only better,”‘ Guerdy admitted.
‘Because a lot of people with cancer, they feel like they have the plague, and they don’t want to share, and they feel like something’s wrong with them and they go into hiding,’ she continued.
‘And I said to myself, “I’m not doing that. I’m not going out like that. I’m definitely going to have this platform,’ she said.
She admitted that she signed up for the Real Housewives franchise for ‘the good,’ showcasing her career and husband, but now is time for something different.
‘Now it’s time to really be real on reality TV and show the bad as well. The good, bad, the ugly, all good,’ she said to applause.
She was told on stage that she was, ‘so inspirational’ to others going on the same journey, but Guerdy admitted it was, ‘a lot of pressure.’
She then addressed the fans and said, ‘You guys are amazing. You know, I’m not a taker like that.’
‘I’m not that person to take on that kind of attention. I like attention for what I do, how I dress, but not so much for like, “Poor Guerdy,” that’s why I asked you guys to empower me, not pity me, and thank you,’ she said to applause.
Back in May, she revealed, ”I was in St Barts having the time of my life when my doctor called me with results following a regular mammogram checkup. I have breast cancer.’
‘It took me a while to process it all and this is why I took a break from social media last month as many noticed. Many of you reached out to check on me and I am thankful for your caring gestures,’ she added.
