Zimbabwean Chief Justice, Godfrey Chidyausiku, has set in motion plans to have Prosecutor General (PG), Johannes Tomana ousted after a series of charges were laid against him, including the foiled Mazowe dairy bombing, reports said on Friday.
Tomana was described as “unfit” to hold office by the southern African country’s Judiciary Service Commission (JSC), thus, setting in motion a move to oust him, the official Herald online reported.
The troubled Tomana is at loggerheads with Zimbabwe’s courts as he is faced with a series of charges for undermining the courts dating back as far as 2009.
Recently, Tomana was detained and appeared in court on charges of abuse of office after releasing two of the four people suspected of planning to bomb a dairy farm belonging to President Robert Mugabe, 92, in Mazowe.
Reports indicated that Tomana spent a day behind bars. He was released after he was granted bail.
According to Newsday, the JSC had written to President Mugabe to set up a commission of inquiry to probe the prosecutor- general’s fitness to hold office.
Unnamed sources said that Tomana would appear before a tribunal in line with Section 187 (3) of the Constitution.
