A priest accused of defiling his 7 year-old niece spent Thursday night in the cold after irate members of the public torched his house shortly after he was released on a cash bail.
Angered by the decision of the court, members of the public stormed Reverend Elijah Gichangi’s home and set his house on fire at around 9pm, reducing it to ashes.
According to Embu West OCPD Francis Sang, the motive was to kill the priest but once the rowdy group realized that he was not in, it resorted to burning the house.
The accused priest who ministers at ACK Church in Mbiruri Parish, had earlier in the day been released by Embu Principal Magistrate Robinson Oigara on a KSH.50,000 cash bail with a hearing date set for 30th May.
He is accused to have defiled the girl around 19th April 2016 at Spring Valley Estate in Embu town.
