The Peoples Democratic Party Governor’s Forum yesterday criticised the freezing of Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose’s personal bank accounts, labeling it as gross abuse of the constitution, Vanguard reports.
Fayose’s accounts were frozen by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, but the move has now come under increasing criticism with the forum strongly urging President Muhammadu Buhari to call the anti-graft agency to order.
The move was labelled as unconstitutional as the accounts of a sitting governor could not be interfered with.
Fayose has been accused of gross negligence of state funds as well as fraud.
President Buhari and Governor Fayose have been engaged in a long running political battle as News24 reported previously, with many commentators seeing the actions of the EFCC as another battle in this political war.
