Paris Olympics Condemns Racist Attacks on Malian-French Singer Aya Nakamura

The Paris Olympics organizing committee criticized the recent “racist” attacks on Malian-French singer Aya Nakamura by far-right French groups.

The issue began over reports that Nakamura will play an Édith Piaf song at the Olympics’ opening ceremony.

Despite moving to France as a child and acquiring citizenship, Nakamura encountered xenophobic hostility.

At a gathering, supporters of the far-right Reconquest party jeered at her. French authorities and fans have rallied to support Nakamura, but Les Natifs, a far-right party, claims she does not represent French culture.

Despite the incident, Nakamura remains one of France’s most prominent musicians.
