Nigerian Man Who Murdered Fiancée After She Refused To Marry Him Arrested After 1 Month

Almost one month after being on the run for allegedly stabbing his fiancée to death because she refused to marry him, the suspect, David Ogundele, a 45-year-old franchise officer with multi national telecommunications company, MTN, has been arrested by the police, Punch reports.

It was reported on April 27, how Ogundele was declared wanted by the police for slaughtering the 30-year-old lady, Oluwatosin Ashinwo, a customer care executive with the same company, MTN, in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, at her apartment at the Tanke area of the town, after she allegedly refused to accept his marriage proposal, citing his volatile temperament, abusive nature and serial infidelity.

Ashinwo’s position was said to have triggered Ogundele’s anger and he allegedly stabbed her multiple times, causing her death. Apart from stabbing Ashinwo to death, the police gathered that Ogundele also stabbed her mother when she tried to intervene in the fight, which led the older woman to be hospitalized at the Uniservity of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, where she had to undergo surgery to stay alive.

The suspect was allegedly arrested somewhere in Osun on Saturday, May 14, after the police tracked him down with undercover agents and was immediately brought back to Ilorin where he was transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation of the State Police Command.

Ogundele was said to have sent text messages to some of his friends while in hiding, that he would give himself up to the police because he was under a spell when he attacked the young woman and her mother and that since Ashinwo was dead, he also wanted to die.

“She is dead, let me die too,” he was reported to have written in one of the text messages.
