Yesterday, the very graphic photo of the University of Lagos undergraduate Jacob Eniola, who allegedly committed suicide, surfaced on social media. Eniola reportedly swallowed a widely available rat poison, Sniper. He was rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Idi Araba, where he died.
Confirming this story, PUNCH adds that it is still unclear why Eniola, a 300-L microbiology student, took the substance, but the school has launched an investigation.
A source close to the victim said, “He stays in Biobaku Hall. It was on Saturday that he took the poison and he was rushed to the hospital. This morning, we got the news that he’s dead. I honestly cannot tell why he did that.”
Another student, Kunle Adegunoye, said he was surprised to hear the news. “March 2014 was the first time I saw him strolling towards the entrance of the iconic room 113, Biobaku Hall of residence, bright, confident, enthusiastic and likeable,” he said.
“Young, naive and ready to learn, he became the toast of everyone in the room,” he continued, adding, “Hardly can a minute pass without Enny, as he was fondly called, ease smiles out of us. He made us sit up and do research with his brilliant, though unending arguments.”
