Nigeria: Tompolo Arraigned In Absentia – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arraignment of ex-militant leader Government Ekepemupolo, commonly known as Tompolo, in absentia over alleged N35 billion fraud.

The development follows Tompolo’s constant evasion of court orders, failing to appear in court to provide answers on the charges leveled against him.

According to a Naij report, Tompolo was arraigned alongside Patrick Akpobolokemi, former boss of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), among others.

The accused persons have been charged with conspiring to commit fraud between 2012 and 2015. They have all pleaded not guilty on the charges and have since requested bail.

While speaking on Tompolo’s case to reporters, EFCC counsel Festus Keyamo confirmed that the ex-militant boss would be charged seperately after his imminent arrest.

“It is the duty of the security agencies and  they are still making efforts to get him.  He is on the run and he cannot continue to be on the run for ever. We will get him,” he said.
