Abuja – President Buhari has ordered a cleansing within the Budget Office, directing a mass sacking due to a number of discrepancies within the 2016 Budget document.
According to a Punch report, Buhari made the decision after being briefed on the dealings of the “budget mafia”, most of which will now be sacked or be posted out of office if they do manage to keep their jobs.
Winifred Oyo-Ita, Head of Service at the Federation, has been the official tasked with the unenviable job of carrying out the President’s directive and communicating the decision to all those connected.
According to a top Government official who spoke on condition of anonymity, the President’s directive will be carried out “with immediate effect.”
An array of embarrassing errors within the 2016 Budget is alleged to have angered Buhari, leading to the purge due to take effect.
The “budget mafia” is reported to have proposed a budget of N9.7 trillion for capital and overhead spending, this despite Buhari’s initiate figure of N8 trillion.
The errors and shady allocations have caused a delay in the passing of the budget, rendering the February 25 deadline unattainable.
