Nigeria: Lagos Riot Update, Lagos Government Shuts Mile 12 Market

Lagos – Following the breakdown of violence in the Mile 12 area of Lagos state, the Lagos state government has shut down the Mile12 market.

Four people were reported killed and several people were injured including policemen.

Trouble started when a tricycle belonging to an Hausa driver hit a Yoruba lady trying to cross the road.

The tricycle operator was asked to take the accident victim to the hospital, but he refused. This angered the Yoruba residents in the area and they attacked the tricycle operator.

Other Hausa residents joined in the attack to defend the tricycle operator and this erupted into violence where four lives were lost.

Security personnel were later invited to restore order.

The area is presently deserted with only few passers-by and motorists plying the road.
