Nigeria: Lagos Building Collapse: Death Toll Rises To 20

The number of lives lost when a five-storey building collapsed in the Lekki area of Lagos state has increased to 20.

A woman from Benin Republic and her children were said to be among the dead.

The National Emergency Management Agency and the Lagos State Fire Service led the rescue operation.

Apart from the 18 persons that died, 13 were rescued from the rubbles, while over 70 are still believed to be trapped.

Most workers who died in the building were reportedly waiting to collect their wages from the contractors. Some of them were said to have been owed up to N40 000.
