In an unusual program of unity amongst the nation’s competing celebrations, senators aligned to pay regard and also honour former president of the Senate, David Mark, on his go back to the Senate after long vacation.
Legislators from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and opposition People Democratic Party (PDP) welcomed him back on Wednesday.
They rendered their respect one after the other to Mark, who sat at the back seat of the opposition side of the chamber.
The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, led the proceedings by announcing Mark’s presence at the plenary.
“Let me welcome back the former Senate President from his deserved holiday,” Ekweremadu said.
A check by this publication show that Senators Godswill Akpabio, Philip Aduda, Samuel Anyanwu, Dino Melaye, Oluremi Tinubu and Senator Oduah and
several others were among those who felicitated with the the former
Senate President.
The Justice Peter Ige-led appellate court had late last year nullified the election of the former Senate President and ordered a fresh election but the former Senate President again defeated his opponent candidate of the APC, Daniel Onjeh, in the re-run election early this year.
He proceeded on a vacation to the United Kingdom after taking oath office and returned back to sitting on Wednesday.
