Abuja – A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted an application to allow witnesses for the Federal Government to testify behind a screen against Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu, Punch has reported.
Dismissing an objection by Kanu’s lawyer, presiding Justice James Tsoho said that the ruling did not amount to revisiting an earlier ruling prohibiting the use of masks by witnesses for the prosecution in the case.
According to Justice Tsoho, the use of a screen would only shield witnesses from the public present in court and would not prevent the judge, lawyers and the accused persons from seeing the witnesses during their testimonies.
In addition, the court dismissed a request made by Kanu’s lawyer stating that witnesses for the prosecution should be acquitted due to a failure on the part of the Federal Government in producing its witnesses to allow the trial to commence on Monday.
The trial has since been fixed to commence on Wednesday.
