Lagos – Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu evaded all inquiries on the recent telephone calls to investigate the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai’s in purchasing of properties in Dubai to the worth of $1,5 Amillion, Punch records.
Magu was leaving the Rockview Classic Hotel in Abuja when he was approached by journalists requesting an interview. At first Magu gave his permission but when the Dubai mansions scandal was raised, he quickly ended the interview and retreated to a waiting car.
This came after legal experts and practitioners urged President Muhammadu Buhari to sack Buratai if he didn’t do the honourable thing and resign himself.
News24 Nigeria reported that the Chief of Army Staff is alleged to accumulated funds for the purchase of the home through a suspicious vehicle contract at the time when Buratai was functioning as the Army’s Director of Procurement.
The vehicles mentioned in the contract relate to cars and motorcycles meant for the use of Operation Lafiya Dole in the fight against Boko Haram in the country.
Despite officials having rubbished the claims and stated that Buratai obtained the his wealth before his tenure as Army Chief, the news has infuriated Nigerian citizens who have since called for the Chief’s resignation.
The Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL) have also reportedly accused the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) of covering up for Buratai, in the scandal.
