Amani National Congress (ANC) leader, Musalia Mudavadi has slammed the Jubilee government for marginalizing young people.
Mudavadi, who addressed a student’s leadership summit at South Eastern University of Kenya in Kitui, said President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration has shortchanged the youth despite getting an overwhelming support from the coalition in the last polls.
“This Government fronted the youth agenda as a priority but in practice the promises are cosmetic. As a country, the aspirations of the youth have largely been suffocated and they have been let down,” he said at the the forum organized by the African liberty students organization.
Mudavadi decried the misuse of resources set aside to improve the welfare of the youth and asked the government to crack a whip on the perpetrators of corruption at National Youth Service and Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF).
“We cannot continue playing roulette with funds meant to boost the welfare of the youth. The looting at NYS which has caused some recruits to be sent away and the siphoning away of millions at YEDF must be stopped and the masterminds brought to book,” he said.
The ANC party leader pointed out that the important group has been sidelined in Presidential appointments and even in employment by both the government and private sector, and appealed to the youth to vote for him so that he can bring the change they desire.
“Successive Kenya governments seemingly don’t know who the youths are. Youth are only good to provide hard labour through NYS and Kazi Kwa Vijana and a satisfied excuse for politicians to loot public coffers. We can work together to change this sad story,” said Mudavadi.
The former Deputy Prime Minister challenged the students not to shy away from taking leadership positions and promised that he will ensure their welfare is taken care of if he is elected into office in 2017.
