A member of Parliament wants the government to block CORD coalition from holding a parralel Madaraka day rally in Nairobi saying that such a rally will raise political temperatures and cause tension in the country.
Nakuru east MP, David Gikaria said that the planned rally by CORD is aimed at inciting Kenyans against certain communities and the government.
He called on the government through the National Police Service not to license the rally.
Speaking Thursday morning in Nakuru town, Gikaria said that if CORD leaders are interested in holding a rally on June 1, then they are free to attend the national day celebrations to be held at Afraha stadium in Nakuru.
“They have now changed the tune and are planning to hold a rally on June 1 to counter the Madaraka day celebrations that will be held at Afraha and the government should be smart enough to block such a rally from happening that day,” he said.
“If they must hold a rally on Madaraka day, then they should join the President and other Kenyans at Afraha,” he added.
CORD is planning to hold a political rally on June 1 in Nairobi as President Kenyatta leads the nation in celebrating the Madaraka day at Nakuru’s Afraha stadium.
