Mourning Family Finds Missing KZN Jogger

Durban – The body of missing jogger Sithabile Mkhasibe was found in a sugarcane field in Dalton by a search party on Tuesday night.

Her brother, Andile Mlotshwa, told News24 that her family had been part of the search party.

Mkhasibe had been jogging with her boyfriend Xolani Nxele on a district road in Dalton, outside Pietermaritzburg, when they were struck by a car on Friday night.

Her boyfriend was flung from the bonnet of the car and later died as a result of his injuries.

In a bizarre twist, the driver of the car, Mcabango Hlongwa, 37, was also accused of dumping Mkhasibe’s body in a sugarcane field.

Police sources close to the investigation, who could not be named, said that the driver had led officers on several fruitless excursions to find Mkhasibe’s body.

Hlongwa appeared in court on Monday and was remanded in custody. He is facing charges of culpable homicide, driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance and failing to stop after the accident.

Mlotshwa said that his sister’s body had been found shortly after 18:00.

“We found her in Dalton in a sugarcane field. We were searching with the police and the little boy who was in the car that hit her,” he said.

“The boy had said that he remembered grass on the right hand side of the road and sugarcane on the left and with the police we managed to find her.”

Mlotshwa said that the discovery of the body had come as cold comfort.

“We are just happy that we found her,” he said.
