Mama Lucy’s Body To Be Transported To Othaya By Road

The body of former First Lady, Mama Lucy Kibaki will be transported by road from Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi for burial at her Othaya home.

Ministry of Internal Security Principal Secretary, Joseph Irungu said Nairobi and Central Kenya residents will view the funeral motorcade along the Nairobi-Sagana-Mukurweini-Othaya road.

The procession is however anticipated to disrupt and create traffic snarl-up along the route.

Irungu noted that the motorcade will not have any stopovers.

There were expectations that the body might be flown to the rural home with a chopper given that the event is being managed by the State.

The body will leave Lee Funeral Home at 8.00am for interdenominational prayers at Othaya Approved Grounds, followed by a private burial at her home in Kanyange village, a few kilometres from Othaya town.

Irungu urged locals to turn out in large numbers along the highway to bid farewell to the former First Lady who died last week at a London Hospital while undergoing treatment.

He said local television and radio stations will provide live coverage for the funeral service.
