The Kenyatta University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olive Mugenda announced on Tuesday that she will be retiring from her position on Friday, March 18.
According to Citizen TV she made the announcement during the International Language and Cultural Centre breaking ceremony.
Her decade long rule saw her being the first woman to lead a public university in 2006 when she was appointed the Vice Chancellor of University by former President Mwai Kibaki.
Mugenda in January this year was met with controversy when she was re-instated as Vice-Chancellor by the Employment and Labour Relations Court.
This was due to a petition by Human Rights Activist, Okiyah Omtatah calling for Mugenda to step down before the end of her term.
She will be the first Vice-Chancellor in the history of Kenyatta University to step down before the completion of her term without negative allegations against her.
Prof. Mugenda was praised by the institution on the work she did towards the infrastructural development, programs and student population.
