Kenyans will now be able to view the remains of the country’s founding father, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta if a new bill sails through.
Chuka Igambang’ombe Member of Parliament, Muthoki Njuki who tabled the Kenyatta Mausoleum Bill, 2016 in Parliament wants the burial site to become a tourist attraction site and subsequently source of revenue for the government.
Kenyatta died on August 22, 1978 at State House Mombasa, Daily Nation reports, after which his remains were flown to Nairobi where he was buried after a week of national mourning.
Though buried at a public space on Parliament Buildings, the late President’s mausoleum remains a restricted place and is only brought to attention during his annual anniversaries.
Njuki is reported to have first drafted the motion in 2015, but it is yet to be debated and passed by National Assembly.
