Kenyan NTV Anchor, Trevor Ombija Speaks on Joey Muthengi Replacement at Citizen TV

The Senior NTV anchor and associate producer Trevor Ombija is leaving the station after close to six years of service.

In an exclusive, the velvety-voiced reporter disclosed that he is headed to Royal Media Services owned station, Citizen TV.

Ombija said that he was grateful for the opportunity accorded to him at NTV, cherishes the relationships he made and proud of his work at the Agha Khan owned media house.

“Yes, it is true, I don’t know how it leaked and tomorrow is my last day at NTV. The media industry is changing and people change too. I have worked at NTV for over five years.”

Responding to reports he is going to replace Joey Muthengi, Ombija explained that he is focussed on opening a new chapter and doing his best.

“I would not want to use the word replace. You can never really replace anyone. Everyone brings their expertise and uniqueness,” said Ombija.

Muthengi hosted Citizen TV’s morning show Day Break and 10 over 10 before she announced she was leaving a few days ago.

Her fellow 10 over 10 hosts Willis Raburu penned a moving message, heaping praise on her for standing with him during hard times.

“What a ride it has been. You inspire me with your passion and meticulous planning, your organization and your amazing spirit. Most people don’t even understand our chemistry or how hard it is to find in this industry,” he posted

Speaking in an interview, she disclosed that she was headed to Italy to be with former Kenyan international McDonald Mariga.

“Mariga is a cool person. I am fond of him. I will be moving to Italy in January and I guess time will tell what next, I don’t know where this (relationship) will take us. Ask Mariga.

“But we will see what becomes of it. Unfortunately, I just felt that what I was going to do with life did not coincide with what Citizen TV had for me. Besides, I had a good time there and I will miss everyone, especially my fans,” she said.

Their relationship came to the fore mid this year after Muthengi travelled to Italy to shoot BetIn TV adverts.
