Kenyan Hospital Burnt Down Following Strike By Nurses

fire

Sections of the Nanyuki Teaching and  Referral Hospital in Laikipia County, Kenya, were fired on Sunday early morning, simply a week after registered nurses consented to go back to work after a week-long strike over pay.

The administration block and part of the laboratory were among the structures destroyed in the 05:30 fire, Daily Nation reported.

It was said that the arsonists cut the electric fence to gain entry into the facility, after which they lit the fire and also destroyed CCTV cameras that could have provided crucial leads on the attack.

The razed facilities were located 50 minutes from the wards. The Standard newspaper said that no casualties were reported.

Police have launched investigations into the matter.
