Controversial Machakos Senator, Johnstone Muthama who is facing hate speech charges alongside seven of his other colleagues is in more trouble after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) directed that National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to interrogate him for spewing venom yet again last weekend.
Muthama and his colleagues Mohamed Junet (Suna East), Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba), Aisha Juma (Kilifi) and Florence Bosire (Busia) have a pending matter in court over the same offense.
According to a press statement sent to newsrooms, the Senator should be immediately probed for making offensive statements during a meeting in Busia.
The Senator allegedly made the hate filed remarks during the homecoming rally of Busia Women Representative Florence Mutua last Sunday. Cord chief Raila Odinga was present during the meeting.
“I received a file from the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in which he has recommended that the suspect be charged with the offence of ethnic contempt,” said Nicholas Mutuku, the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions.
“As the matter falls under the NCIC mandate, I have forwarded the inquiry file to the commission and directed that the suspect be immediately interrogated and speedy investigations into the offensive utterances and appropriate action be carried out,” explains the statement further.
