students of Merti Muslim Girls Secondary School in Isiolo County have allegedly burnt down a dormitory in protest against mock examinations.
The school with a population of 150 students became the first to go up in flames in the County.
About 50 students were forced to sleep in their classrooms while others shared dormitories under close watch of armed police, after one hall was destroyed.
Merti Sub-County deputy commissioner, Julius Maiyo said the fire is suspected to have been started by Form Four students who were due to sit mock examinations on Wednesday.
Maiyo said the girls burnt a dormitory that hosted 52 students adding that the fire broke out when the students were in classrooms attending evening preps.
He said the arsonists arranged mattresses in one of the corners before setting them on fire.
Neighbours and police intervened to put out the fire.
Maiyo also confirmed that no arrests have been made, saying police have launched investigations.
Elsewhere, Garbatulla High Schools students have been sent home after Form Four students refused to sit the mock exams.
