Kuresoi North Member of Parliament, Moses Cheboi has called on CORD leader Raila Odinga to stop pampering hate mongers if he truly is committed in the fight against hate speech and tribalism in the country.
Cheboi said that it is wrong for Raila to pamper leaders accused of hate speech instead of rebuking them.
The legislator said Raila’s actions towards the eight members of Parliament who were recently charged with hate speech are sending a very wrong message to Kenyans and other leaders.
Speaking in Kuresoi on Sunday, Cheboi said that it is not right for a respected national leader like Raila to go round the country attending homecoming parties for hate mongers.
“Why should a leader like Raila be seen moving around with people charged with hate speech in the name of homecoming celebrations?” he posed.
“It’s wrong for him to pamper the hate mongers because tomorrow they will repeat the same mistake knowing that Raila will come to their aid,” he said.
He warned that the war on hate speech will not be won if the courts and the national cohesion and integration commission (NCIC) are not allowed to do their job without political interference.
“If we don’t distinguish politics from the work of NCIC and the Judiciary, then as a country we will be fighting a losing battle in relation to hate speech and war mongering,” he said.
