Kenya: Man Attempts Suicide After Losing KES 16,000 On Sportpesa

A middle-aged man in Taita village, Kuresoi South is allegedly to have tried commit suicide on Sunday night after he lost KES 16 000 through sports betting.

Dennis Kutwa is reported to have lost the money after his teams lost the match.

According to area Nyumba Kumi chairman John Mosop, the man was rescued by villagers who were alarmed by the noises that were coming from his house.

“He placed a bet on Sportpesa but lost and that is when he stabbed himself twice on the neck. Luckily for him, the villagers came to rescue him and he was rushed to the nearby dispensary where he is recuperating,” said Kutwa.

According to his wife, Kutwa had earlier sold a cow with the intention of buying iron sheets but secretly used it on sports betting.
