Kenya: Four-Storey Building Collapses In Zimmerman

A four-storey building at Zimmerman Estate in Nairobi collapsed on Wednesday morning.

St. John Ambulance, who responded to the disaster, confirmed via twitter that there were no injuries as tenants had already vacated the premise.

According to Standard, the building had been marked for demolition in 2014 after it was found unfit for habitation, forcing tenants to move out.

It is alleged that the floor was weak and the building lacked supporting pillars.

Daily Nation however reports that Estate grocers lost their stalls that they had set up outside the building, sending fears that the collapse could have been fatal had it occurred in the day.
