Kenya: DJ Adrian Rescue Pinye’s Following Backlash Over ‘Mediocre’ Statement

Veteran mix master DJ Adrian has comee in defense of DJ Pinye over his statement on an interview that he used to give music from some artists a wide berth for being mediocre.

DJ Adrian said that DJ Pinye played an instrumental role in the success of Kenyan artistes such as Gidi Gidi Maji Maji and Hardstone.

“I know for a fact that Pinye was an important part of various artists’ careers back then and I feel that if you could just talk to them then you could get the real story. He even went on tours with most of them,” Adrian said..

He further stated that deejays play a pivotal role in the music industry and that their efforts should not be written off.

“Personally, I was the first Kenyan deejay to tour the United States back then, and all I did was play Kenyan music during my shows; which got us much needed recognition out there and developed our industry,” added DJ Adrian.

According to Pinye, some artistes dropped mediocre songs and as such he wouldn’t bother playing the songs then.

He mentioned Khaligraph Jones and DNA among artistes he had blacklisted.

“There are artists whose music I did not play back in the days, including Khaligraph and DNA, but their careers have grown… I cannot play Lamba Lolo or New Position. DJs shouldn’t play mediocre music,” said DJ Pinye in an interview with NRG radio.

That did not settle well netizens online who came out to accuse him of ‘killing’ upcoming musicians’ dreams back then.
